Location: English Learner Education, Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131


 


Reports To: Director, English Learner Education and Migrant Teacher Leader


 


Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12-month / Hourly Non-exempt


 


Salary Schedule: Bilingual Liaison negotiated agreement, Salary Grade 67C, starting rate $22.62 per hour


 


Position Purpose:  


 


The Migrant Service Provider provides Title I Part C Education Program-sponsored supplemental instructional services and support services.  This person serves as a liaison between students, parents, schools, the central office, and the community to ensure the federal Title I Part C Migrant Education Program goals are met.  This individual works closely with the Director, English Learner Education, and the Migrant Teacher Leader to ensure quality services are provided and collaborates with the Migrant Team to meet program outcomes, including K-8 instructional support for students.  While the position provides a workspace at the English Learner Education Office, this position will spend the majority of the work week in schools.


 


Essential Performance Responsibilities:



  • Provide language support for elementary students (grades K-6), including but not limited to academic support during the school day, and organizing academic support such as tutoring opportunities during and after school.

  • Assist with the communication of student attendance concerns and refer families to resources to improve attendance. 

  • Keep accurate data on migrant student services at assigned schools. 

  • Make home visits to provide support and/or instructional services.

  • Attend and support all family involvement activities sponsored by the Migrant Education Program, and support EL Program and/or assigned schools' activities (e.g., parent events, youth leadership, recruiting events).

  • Attend Title I, Part C Program professional development 2-3 times annually (travel required).



Additional Duties
: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.


          


Equipment:  This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.


 


Travel:  Local travel is required.

  • Must be able to respond in a timely manner.

  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Work in school building and central office environments.


Interrelations:



  • Contact with personnel within the district, with migrant families, and with customers and vendors.

  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the Migrant Teacher Leader to complete day-to-day tasks.

  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations in a culturally proficient manner.

  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.


Employee Punctuality and Appearance



  • For schools and district departments to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.

  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Two (2) years of college coursework, 48 semester/72 quarter hours, or successful completion of the Para Professional Assessment Test is required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.

  • Excellent attendance record.

  • Willingness to learn the Migrant Education Program and Measurable Program Outcomes.

  • Exhibit skills pertinent to positive human relations and the ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, central office staff, students, parents, administrators, and the community.

  • Ability to work flexible hours that will include evenings and weekends.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to provide their own transportation to make home visits, and work in different OPS settings and in the community.


Terms of Employment


This position is treated as a full-time, non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time, and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.


 


Terms of employment are contingent upon: 



  • A background check that demonstrates a background is acceptable for the position sought, and working with or around students.

  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
