Location: Central Office (Teacher Administrative Center), 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131


                *Will travel to the Elementary & Middle Schools with the Dual Language Programs*


 


Reports To: Dual Language and World Languages Teaching and Learning Consultant and Director of K-12 English Learner Programs


 


Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 188 duty days + 9 additional workdays per negotiated agreement / Exempt


 


Salary Schedule:


2025-2026 = Step 1 with a master's degree: $57,820 + 5% Teacher Leader variance ($2,891) = $60,711 


*the 2026-27 salary structure is not finalized, so we are sharing the 2025-26 salary information.*


 


Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.  Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable negotiated agreement.  


 


Position Purpose:


The Dual Language Teacher Leader supports Dual Language teachers and staff and Dual Language and English Learner students at the elementary level by providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Dual Language programming to promote biliteracy, student learning, and teacher effectiveness. This role will focus on coaching and professional development at the elementary and middle school levels, and include the development of Dual Language curriculums (grades K-8) in collaboration with the EL Leadership Team.


 


The Dual Language Teacher Leader will work directly with the Dual Language and World Languages Teaching and Learning Consultant and other EL Office and CIS staff to develop curriculum and professional learning based on new and emerging research and application of effective instructional practices for supporting Dual Language and multilingual learners, including students with limited formal education.


 


This individual will make regular coaching visits to dual language schools to provide support to new and experienced Dual Language teachers in both English and Spanish side classrooms.  They will also participate in school network teams to support successful continuous school improvement and professional learning cycles. 


 


Essential Performance Responsibilities 



  • Coach teachers in effective instructional practices in Dual Language. Provide extensive coaching support for new Dual Language teachers. 

  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, paraprofessionals, principals, program directors, central office staff, academic data representatives, data processors, curriculum specialists, instructional facilitators, and other staff to affect student achievement and teacher effectiveness. 

  • Develop Dual Language curriculum based on new and emerging research and applications for effective instructional practices for supporting multilingual learners in alignment with state English Language Proficiency standards and Spanish Proficiency standards. 

  • Support consistent implementation of Dual Language High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM). 

  • Support district literacy goals including Structured Literacy and foundational literacy skills instruction.  

  • Participate and provide guidance in curriculum development for content area instruction to support multilingual learners. 

  • Create and deliver professional development to Dual Language staff (teachers, paraprofessionals, bilingual liaisons, and contracted interpreters) and other district leaders and staff. 

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of EL summer school programming and other extended learning opportunities. 

  • Support building leadership in issues related to Dual Language, such as scheduling, budget, materials, technology, data, and grading. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 



  • Master’s degree in education is required. 

  • A valid NE Teaching Certificate with endorsement in K-12 ESL is required. A Bilingual Education Endorsement is preferred.

  • Excellent attendance record. 

  • Professional verification of successful experience teaching elementary or middle school Spanish-side Dual Language, Spanish Language Arts, or English-side Dual Language.  

  • Knowledge of current effective instructional practices for Dual Language and English Learner students, literacy, differentiation, and culturally responsive teaching. 

  • Knowledge of current EL, Title IC, Refugee, and Dual Language programs in the Omaha Public Schools, including language proficiency assessments. 

  • Must possess a strong understanding of language acquisition and the relationship between Spanish language arts standards, English language arts standards, and English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards.

  • Strong public presentation skills and the ability to develop and present professional development at all levels. 

  • Ability to provide coaching in effective instructional practices for Dual Language and English Learner students for new and experienced Dual Language teachers and staff as well as classroom teachers.   

  • Proven successful experience co-leading grade level team meetings and/or professional learning communities to strengthen scaffolding strategies and analyze Dual Language and EL data. 

  • Strong leadership skills. 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. 

  • Skills in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills. 

  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality. 

  • Evidence of the willingness and ability to comply with standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education. 

  • This individual will exhibit skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community. 

  • A willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to a continuous quest for quality education. 


Additional Duties 
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.


 


Equipment: This position may require the ability to use technology including iPads, Apple TVs, in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use. 


 


Travel: Travel between OPS schools and the Central Office will be required.  Additional travel to Dual Language related conferences may be required.

  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service. 


Employee Punctuality and Appearance 



  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. 

  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator. 

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position. 


 


Terms of Employment


This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time, and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.


 


Terms of employment are contingent upon:



  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.

  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.

  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).

  • Execution and delivery to OPS of a Teacher Contract presented by OPS.
