This position exists to ensure that all animals used in UNMC's biomedical research, teaching and testing programs meet all mandated Federal/State/University Regulations and international accreditation guidelines in addition to managing a technical services program, Research Technical Services (RTS), in Comparative Medicine (CM) under the direction of the Assistant Director for Animal Welfare. This position ensures all animals receive the highest level of care according to research protocols including preventative medicine, surgical support, and the training of research personnel and staff necessary to obtain these objectives. Oversight of the RTS program includes performing technical services for UNMC researchers as approved on their IACUC protocols to include, but not limited to, surgical and anesthetic services, imaging services, various clinical technical services, genetic testing, breeding colony management, etc. ensuring all procedures are approved and meet UNMC policies. Responsible for the management and implementation of medical and clinical records. Requires consultation, training and education of personnel in animal research procedures. Working outside normal CM hours may be required to complete duties as well as participating in rotating on-call, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
